2019 Nationals Hosted by Hingham & Hull

Wednesday, August 21, through Saturday, August 24

Excerpt from the Mainsheet:

Summer sailing in New England is terrific—and in 2019, it will be even more so, as the Rhodes 19 National Champion- ship regatta will be held on Hingham Bay in late August.
Fleet 46—Hingham and Hull Yacht Clubs, which have a long tradition of hosting one-design events—will host the event August 21–24.
Regatta chair/fleet captain Ellen Gray and a talented team already have planning well under way.
Barbara Wilson is in charge of organiz- ing guest quarters for visiting sailors, so all who wish to can have a temporary home away from home.
Anyone who’s had the pleasure of attending a nationals hosted by Fleet 46 knows they offer outstanding hospitality, a variety of settings for great social events, superior race committee work, and sailing that can be challenging but not intimidating.
Former class president Mike Hebert, a member of Hull Yacht Club, has high hopes for an excellent turnout, and he firmly believes a forty-boat fleet is entirely possible.
He’ll be encouraging participation by many of the thirty-five local boats, and Hingham Bay’s location on Boston’s South Shore is within easy reach of almost a dozen Rhodes fleets, large and small.
Mike is particularly pleased by the renaissance of the subject of crew requirements.
If the three-person rule is replaced by weight parameters for a skipper and one crew, it might well be easier to field teams—and thus more boats.
That decision may be made before this event.
According to Hull Yacht Club’s Joe O’Neil, “We’re looking forward to cohosting, sharing our bay with the Rhodes 19 class, and sharing the karma of our fleet with the national class.”
He and Fleet 46 can be certain the class really is looking forward to that too.
